In April 2023, PIO, together with Flanders Hydraulics Research (FHR), appointed Sirris to prepare the tendering procedure. 

We asked Sirris to focus initially on a materials study. After all, the new technique stands or falls with finding a suitable material with the right properties. 

Working closely with FHR, Sirris explored several material options, evaluated them in terms of advantages and disadvantages, and tested their usability for building scale models on a relatively large scale. Sirris used internal expertise as well as relevant external experts from the industry and research community. 

Sirris delivered the results of this research on Oct. 6, 2023, in the form of an English-language report (see below under 'documents'). 

Based on the insights gained, FHR will prepare an innovation procurement procedure. Launch of the procedure to be expected in early 2024.
