FutureFoodS
What?
The vision of the EU co-funded FutureFoodS partnership is to jointly achieve healthy, safe, environmentally friendly, socially secure, fair and economically viable food systems for Europe.
Globally there is an urgent demand for more sustainable food systems (FAO 2021). Hunger and unhealthy diets are both on the rise, while climate change is disrupting food production and distribution. Currently, unsustainable food systems are also exacerbating climate change, reinforcing calls for transformation.
A wide range of stakeholders have joined to build a sustainable, interconnected and territorialised European food system by 2050 and beyond. FutureFoodS includes 83 partners from 28 countries, including national and regional authorities, funding agencies, universities and research institutes.
The partnership foresees, among other things, a collaboration of funding agencies to jointly organise annual calls for project proposals. In doing so, the European Commission envisages a top-up to approve more projects.
Six external project funding calls will be organised over the course of this 10-year partnership, prioritising topics based on the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), which is continuously updated based on recent research.
Status?
The second FutureFoodS call will open on December 4th 2025.
