Challenge
To meet Flemish and local climate targets, renovation rates must increase. The high demand for renovation advice shows that the intention to renovate among private individuals is high.
However, the renovation rate is not rising in step with the intention, because the step to a contractor is still too big for private individuals. This is evident from the many questions local authorities receive about reliability of contractors, standard offers, cost prices, etc. So currently there is a market failure/friction here: supply and demand do not find each other or only partially.
The E-RenoZone project, responds to this by creating a digital platform where demand (citizen) and supply (contractor) can easily find each other. A concept like 'booking.com' is being developed for searching for contractors. On this dynamic platform, citizens can find a lot of up-to-date information about contractors such as where they operate and reviews from other users.
The contractor will be able to see the existing demand and use this for its business strategy (e.g. determining useful training and recruitment strategy). With this, the project will offer added value compared to already existing (passive) tools. In addition, the platform can also be used by the government to gain an insight into the renovation rate per district/street/region on which further policy can be adjusted.
