The PIO trajectory focuses on the further development of knowledge about smoke control in healthcare facilities. The VIPA has drawn up specifications for the design and implementation of a fire test program aimed at innovative smoke control in healthcare facilities.

The assignment consisted of the following parts:

• Exploring and selecting innovative technical applications for smoke control
• Develop and implement a fire test program
• Register and transfer the test results

Proposals were awaited by February 18, 2020.

VIPA has used the results of the new fire test program  to investigate how the application of the tested techniques or composition of techniques can be translated into an assessment framework for fire safety in care buildings. Finally, the intention is to include such an assessment framework in new regulations for fire safety for care buildings. These project phases were not exacuted within the PIO context, but by the Policy Center for Care and Health.
